A little history of Liget Royal Restaurant – a glimpse into the past Part I. The Ferenczi Hotel

Not many people in Hévíz know that famous hotels and restaurants once stood on the site of the current Liget Royal Restaurant, that this place – in the heart of Hévíz – contributed a lot to gastronomy and good hospitality more than a hundred years ago. The past, the atmosphere before the century, which some relics still remind us of on the walls and shelves, even if now in a modern guise, can still be felt within these walls. The people who work here, the employees of Liget Royal Restaurant, do their work every day with the spirit of this place in mind, and do everything they can to be worthy followers of their illustrious hospitality predecessors. They try to recreate the friendly, homely atmosphere of peaceful hospitality here, the personal attention and space that is so hard to find today. They do this with the relaxed and direct atmosphere of the modern age: in an unhurried, welcoming environment. As the holidays approach, as a sign of respect for our ancestors, we would like to evoke the past in our short series, and to show you snapshots of this place that can still be found today. Have fun! Have fun delving into the past! We will continue soon! And we look forward to seeing you in person!
A hévízi Liget Royal Étterem helyén egykor állt Ferenczi Szálloda - 1928 Ferenczi Hotel - postcard, Hévíz, 1928, former Mexikó Hotel

The picture shows the building of the Ferenczi Hotel in Hévíz, with the large ground-floor restaurant built next to it. The inscription on the facade reveals that it is the building of the former Mexikó Hotel. In 1914, the widowed János Pócza ran the then 16-room restaurant. Later, Ferenczi became its owner.

The date is based on the text of the postcard, 1928.VIII.5.
